The R4DS is a storage device for Nintendo DS Lite gaming units. There are a lot of these flash memory type storage devices on the market to choose from for the Ds lite and the new Dsi. Many of the storage devices are different, and also have varying prices, features and functions. Each of these offers u differences in either memory capacity, size or the price of the exact unit itself. There are now 2 different versions - or generations if you will - of these cards. First generation cards were bigger GBA card sized units while the second generation are the exact same size as Ds lite Cartridges.

The R4DS is short for the Revolution for DS and it's the latest technology in the memory storage devices. There are some things you must do prior to using your R4DS in your Nintrendo DS. While these steps are very easy to go through - it's important that all of this is done and everything is followed exactly as I explain. While the installation is very easy, it may seem a little bit confusing to anyone that has not tried to setup an R4DS Card before. With this article I will explore AND explain all of the steps you need to make installing and configuring the R4DS Card as easy as possible. I'll cover each of the steps you need to follow for the installation of the R4DS card in easy to follow steps.

Step 1 is simple - Go and Download the Firmware:

All hardware needs some firmware that can help it run and perform the tasks it's meant to perform. The R4DS is exactly the same in this regard. The firmware / software is the very first requirement of the setting up of your R4DS Card. You are able to download the latest version of the firmware from the R4DS.cn Website or other websites which may have the unofficial (but much better) Wood R4 Firmware like ModChipStore.com or R4-DS-Revolution.com. Once you decide on the right fimware simply save it to your PC and write down or memorize where you're savig it (the most common is either the desktop or the downloads folder) on your PC. If your PC does not have an SD card slot, then you'll need to put the microSD card into the USB Reder and plug that into the USB port on your computer. Alright, time to format your memory card to get it ready for the firmware. You may format it by using FAT32 file system.

Saving The Firmware Files For the R4DS:

You can quickly and easy load and save files to the R4DS Card. All of the files in the zip file that you just downloaded should be copied to the root of yoru microSD card. If there are folders, they need to be copied over as well, leaving everything as it is. Once you're done copying over all of the firmware files, take a few minutes and put some games and applications on the microSD card, along with some MP3 music or eBooks you might like to read too. So you can give it all a try as soon as you plug your R4DS Card into your Nintendo DS.

Setting up the card with R4DS cartridge:

Alright. When you have added all of the files you wanted to the microSD card, including some games and applications as well as mp3's and more, it's time to take your card out from your USB reader and plug it into the R4DS Card. Step 3: Now On To The Nintendo DS Lite:

Step 3: Turn on Your Nds or Nintendo DS Lite:

Once you turn the power on, the Nds lite screen will come up, and depending on how you have your DS set up, it may automatically show Loading on your screen for 1-2 seconds and then bring up the R4DS Card menu. If "loading" is not displayed on your Nintendo DS Screen, then you may not have put all of the firmware files on your microSD card. If this is the case, you'll have to go right back to step one, and start the process all over again, making sure you follow each steps exactly as it's written in this article. If the menu system does come up, and is working as it should, your R4DS Card is ready to use.. All you have to do now is go and explore the thousands of free homebrew games and applications out there - eBooks, Music and more, all on your Nintendo DS and R4DS Card.
