The games and applications that are out there and available for the Nintendo R4 card are definitely too many to list - no matter how long I would want to make an article about them, a new, or another game or application would be released just as I finished my writing.
Once you actually get your hands on an R4 Card for the Nintendo DS, you'll soon find yourself overwhelmed with all of the games and applications that are available for free. At last count I think there were over 800 or so applicatons and home brew games out there for anyone with the R4 to download and play.
One of the best examples of excellent home brew is Rick Dangerous. Rick Dangerous was one of those games on the classic Amiga, Atari ST and even the old Commodore 64 computer systems that you just can't get out of your head. With its whimsical way of taking something like Indiana Jones, and making it a comical character that has to escape from the jungle he crash landed in.
Now, the game is available for your R4 DS Card and the Nintendo DSi in the form of a homebrew games, that is release for free by the developers. Every sound effect, level, and even the progression of difficulty is faithful to the original game itself - making this an excellen reminder of the games we used to play.
While I make the comparison to Indiana Jones, the game is actually not at all about Indiana Jones in any way, shape or form. I only compare the two characters as a reference, because Rick reminds me of Indy in so many ways. The game itself is very unique and has little, if any resemblence to the main character in Indiana Jones movies.
And you know what? It's probably one of the best platform games out there, for any game system. Rick Dangerous is the computer version of a Mario Style game, with even more features and extras to make it much better. It's been quoted, compared and now re-made for those of you lucky enough to own an Nintendo DS R4 Card.
